The ren'youkei + っぱなし (ppanashi) describes leaving something in its current state.

  コートを着っぱなし寝た。 (Kooto wo kippanashi neta.)
I slept with my coat still on.
 

This form occurs mostly in the spoken language. For more formal uses and the written language the rentaikei + まま (mama) is used.

  コートを着るまま寝ました。 (Kooto wo kiru mama neta.)
I slept with my coat still on.
